Patient 1: Significant Motor Involvement

This patient has known our team for a long time and always brightens up the waiting area with her smile. She is 6 months post operative in these pictures. Her arm and hand involvement is on the more significant end of the scale. Her arm was very tight and she rarely used it. It took extra time to put on shirts, coats and gloves because of her wrist and elbow position. It was even difficult to use her arm to hold an object still on a tabletop. Sometimes her balance on the right side was made more difficult because her elbow was so bent (flexed). After surgery, dressing is easier-especially in the winter! She also walks with a more even upper body alignment.

Here she tries to make a fist before surgery……….and after.

After surgery she is even practicing to use her hand as an assist.
